The Varieties of a Power Generator

A power generator is already too many in the market.  A lot of online stores showcase a lot of models that manufacturers can think of.  Price ranges from below $100 to as high as over a $1000.

Power generator varies according to your needs.  Some power generators only offers a little as emergency siren and radio while others are designed for professional contractors and can also be used for home back – up power.

Some of the models in the market include:

·    The Eton FR400 Hand Crank Radio and Power Generator in Silver which is below a $100 and provides an emergency siren, water resistant radio, a cell phone charger and LED lights so that one can contact for help.  It gives you access to hear important news updates or check the weather.  This small power generator only weighs 1.5 pounds.
·    The National Geographic Portable Power Generator is designed to have everything as you travel in a wounded path.  Its price is over a $100 and has five, removable LED flashlight and a fluorescent lantern to provide enough light in any given situation, it also comes with a siren for emergencies.  It can also accommodate cell phone chargers and laptops which is best for digital photographers in the field.  Included in the design is the seven – band AM/FM/NOAA radio and also includes thermometer, clock and compass as an added travel essential.

·    The Windstream Human Power Generator which is over $600 relies on the human body to deliver energy.  It provides an adjustable stand that raises and clamps the rear axle and an adjustable friction wheel, a flywheel for steady power and a DC generator that can provide 500 watts.
·    The Coleman Powermate Subaru 5000W Portable Generator is over $800 and runs on a gas engine.  The 5 galloon gas tank can provide up to 10 hours run time at 50% load.  It operates at 5000W up to the maximum of 6250W.
·    The Coleman Powermate Pro 49 State 5000 Watt Portable Generator with Honda GX390 13HP OHV Engine which is priced at over $1300 is made for the professional contractor and can be used as well for home backup power.  The 13HP  OHV (overhead calve) of Honda Engine is designed for fuel efficiency, easier maintenance, longer life and less noise compared to other engines.  Its 7 galloon tank can provide up to 13.5 hours run time at 50% load.

In choosing a generator get one that is rated for the amount of power that is needed.  Check the labels on appliances, lighting, and equipment so that the amount of power needed to operate the equipment will be determined.  Ask an electrician for help to determine the power needed.  If the equipment draws a larger power than the generator can produce, the fuse on the generator may blow or may inflict damage to the connected equipment.
The common hazards in using a generator include:

·    Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning
·    Electric shock or electrocution
·    Fire and burns

It is important to read and follow instructions that comes with the power generator to make sure that it is handled properly and is within the limitation of its power output.  This is to avoid accidents and even death.
